Naming emotions to strengthen your ability to support SMEs

On September 24, 2025, at the monthly meeting of the Accompagner les PME dans l’action climatique community of practice, we explored the ecoanxiety experienced by SME coaches. Through the exercise of shared emotions, two strong contrasts emerged: the vitality and serenity felt in connection with nature, and the sadness, fatigue or fear triggered by the consequences of climatic phenomena.

The word of the day – solastalgia – particularly resonated. It expresses the pain of seeing one’s environment deteriorate, the mourning that many are already feeling for a future that will be different from what they had imagined. A sense of loss that fuels both lucidity and the urgency to act.

Our exchanges also highlighted a shared frustration: the difficulty of getting people to agree to changes that are described as “sacrifices” when in reality they would pave the way to a better collective quality of life.

This month’s exchange has enabled us toname these emotions, which is a key step in maintaining balance and providing better support for SMEs.

Thanks to our coaches! Pascale Lagacé, Aviséo and Annie Marcil, Annie Marcil Coaching, both members of theAlliance Coach Climat Québec– for these new tools, which will enable us to strengthen our capacity for action to support a growing number of SMEs in the face of the major transformations underway!

The next Community of Practice meeting is scheduled for Wednesday, October 29, from 1:30 pm to 3 pm. If you’d like to join the community, click here: Community of Practice | QNP
