Unconcerned
Average transition index of 16.8
21% of companies
The Carefree companies are often very small businesses (VSEs) that have not yet started to think about their GHG emissions or the place they could occupy in a low-carbon economy. They declare that their business model is not compatible with these issues, which seems to hinder any initial approach.
This profile is characterized by a low level of knowledge and awareness of climate change. Unconcerned people are not in a position to comment on the risks or potential benefits, and find it difficult to position themselves in relation to the issues raised by the transition.
They do not express a sense of urgency to reduce emissions, nor, for the time being, an openness to reviewing their ways of doing things. Their inertia does not necessarily reflect opposition, but rather a lack of resources, benchmarks and motivation to get the ball rolling.

Motionless
Average transition index of 30.3
18% of companies
Often active in the primary and secondary sectors, Motionless companies have not yet embarked on a structured path towards a low-carbon economy. They have not measured their GHG emissions and know little about their sources.
They perceive climate change as bringing more risks than benefits, and have no dedicated in-house expertise. The subject is rarely discussed at management level, and commitment remains limited.
Although they recognize the urgency of reducing emissions, they generally limit themselves to legal obligations or the requirements of their principals. As they employ on average more people than other profiles, their inertia is all the more significant for the Quebec economy.

Enthusiastic
Average transition index of 30.3
31% of companies
Enthusiasts represent those who come out of carelessness by seeing in climate transformation not only constraints, but also benefits and business opportunities to be seized.
Generally located downstream of the value chain, they recognize the urgency of taking action to reduce GHGs and say they are ready to review their ways of doing things. They have a positive and mobilizing vision, but do not yet have the means to act fully. Measuring their emissions is non-existent or in its infancy: they can know approximately their sources of GHG emissions, think about a complete inventory or consider significant reductions over the next few years.
They do not lack willpower, but capacity. They lack internal expertise and do not yet have recourse to external support, which explains their difficulty in transforming their motivation into concrete actions, which results in an average Transition Index below average.

Committed
Average transition index of 38.0
16% of companies
The activists , who are often active in the service sector and have been in business for several years, say they are ready to evolve in a low-carbon economy.
They have a strong understanding of the issues and a high level of climate literacy.
Even if their measurement of GHG emissions remains partial or non-existent, they know their main sources and are already implementing actions to reduce them. They regularly integrate concepts related to climate and transition into their training.
What sets them apart is that they rely on internal or external expertise and actively collaborate within their value chain, which allows them to implement more concrete actions than the average business in Quebec.
