Unconcerned
Transition Index of 15.4
22% of companies
Unconcerned companies are often very small enterprises (VSEs) that have not yet begun to think about their GHG emissions or their place in a low-carbon economy. They declare that their business model is not compatible with these issues, which seems to hinder any initial approach.
This profile is characterized by a low level of knowledge and awareness of climate change. Unconcerned people are not in a position to comment on the risks or potential benefits, and find it difficult to position themselves in relation to the issues raised by the transition.
They do not express a sense of urgency to reduce emissions, nor, for the time being, an openness to reviewing their ways of doing things. Their inertia does not necessarily reflect opposition, but rather a lack of resources, benchmarks and motivation to get the ball rolling.

Motionless
Transition Index of 28.9
16% of companies
Often active in the primary and secondary sectors, Motionless companies have not yet embarked on a structured move towards a low-carbon economy. They have not measured their GHG emissions and know little about their sources.
They perceive climate change as bringing more risks than benefits, and have no dedicated in-house expertise. The subject is rarely discussed at management level, and commitment remains limited.
Although they recognize the urgency of reducing emissions, they generally limit themselves to legal obligations or the requirements of their principals. As they employ on average more people than other profiles, their inertia is all the more significant for the Quebec economy.

Enthusiastic
Transition Index of 28.4
29% of companies
Located downstream in the value chain, Enthusiastic is preparing to operate in a low-carbon economy.
Being “in progress” in terms of GHG measurement, it has a rough idea of its emissions sources and has not yet carried out an inventory, but it is thinking about it. It is confident that it will be able to significantly reduce its GHG emissions over the next few years.
The Enthusiastic has a particularly positive attitude to the subject of climate change. She believes it’s urgent to reduce GHG emissions, and she’s motivated and ready to do things differently.
The reason for its inaction is mainly due to a lack of information to start the process.

Committed
Transition Index of 42.0
17% of companies
Having been in business for several years and operating in the service sector, Committed considers itself ready to operate in a low-carbon economy.
She considers herself well informed about the phenomenon of climate change and has a high level of environmental literacy.
Although it is “neutral” in terms of GHG measurement, it has a rough idea of its sources of emissions and is implementing climate actions to reduce greenhouse gases.
Its training programs regularly incorporate notions of the transition to a low-carbon economy, and the subject of climate change is often raised with its customers and the companies and organizations in its value chain.

Visionaries
Transition Index of 60.0
16% of companies
Rather a young company with 10 to 249 employees, the Visionaries is ready to operate in a low-carbon economy. It is “advanced” in terms of GHG measurement and considers that its raison d’être is to meet society’s needs while reducing greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions and preserving resources for future generations.
It is well-informed about risks and opportunities, has environmental expertise and holds certifications related to sustainable development.
Willing to sacrifice income or yield to fight climate change, it believes that technological solutions are the key to solving the climate change problem. It invests in R&D aimed at adapting to climate change and generating products and solutions compatible with a low-carbon economy.
