QUEBEC, April 3, 2024 /CNW/ – The Ministry of the Environment, the Fight Against Climate Change, Wildlife and Parks (MELCCFP) grants a maximum subsidy of $150,000 to QNP to enhance the data of the Quebec Business Transition Barometer until 2026. This funding comes from the Electrification and Climate Change Fund and is part of the 2023-2028 implementation plan of the 2030 Green Economy Plan.
The Barometer, whose first edition was launched in 2022, measures the level of commitment of Quebec companies to the transition to a low-carbon economy. QNP mandates the research firm Léger to conduct this study annually with at least 500 leaders, which allows for the evaluation of the maturity level of companies in implementing climate actions.
At present, despite the quality of the data available through the Barometer, it does not allow us to establish precisely the level of maturity of companies in each region of Quebec. The financial assistance granted by the Ministry is aimed at acquiring new knowledge, which will make it possible, among other things, to improve financial assistance programs and public policies in this field, and to better assess the efforts and resources required to enable local businesses to fully contribute to accelerating Quebec’s transition to a greener economy.
Key Findings :
- QNP is an independent think tank and a non-profit organization whose mission is to raise awareness, equip, and mobilize Quebec companies and those who support them in order to help them take advantage of a carbon-neutral economy. To this end, it has notably created the Quebec Business Transition Barometer and a Transition Index, which allow for tracking the progress of climate action implementation by companies, from the smallest to the largest, including SMEs. The results reveal concrete avenues to help businesses successfully engage in the important ongoing economic transformation.
- The financial assistance granted by the MELCCFP is spread over the next three fiscal years, up to a maximum of $50,000 for each of the fiscal years 2023-2024 to 2025-2026. This represents approximately 35% of the total project costs of $440,450 over three years. Ministerial funding is complemented by contributions from other partners and collaborators, including BMO, Investissement Québec, Cascades, the Business Development Bank of Canada, Hydro-Québec, PME Montréal Est-de-l’Ile, the Fonds de solidarité FTQ and the Fondation en environnement et développement durable.
- This grant will contribute to measure 4.2.1.1. f of the Plan for a Green Economy 2030 implementation plan and measure 128 of Quebec’s Energy Transition, Innovation and Efficiency Master Plan 2018-2026.
